What Does IP67 Mean?
Apple’s iPhone XR is rated as IP67. Don’t know what IP67 means? Let’s clear our concept about IP first. IP code refers to Ingres Protection Code. It is published by International Electrochemical Commission. Being a rating system, it defines the degree of protection provided by mechanical and electrical casings or wirings against dust, water, intrusions, etc.
The IP numbers represent the water and dustproof quality of products. In our case, these products are mobile phones(iPhone XR to be specific).
The first number after IP reflects the protection of the product against solid materials like dust, sand, etc. This number ranges from 0 to 6. Here, 0 means no protection against solid objects at all, while 6 represents 100% protection against such objects.
Well! Now it’s quite obvious what the second number after IP is going to reveal. Yes, for sure, this represents part’s protection against liquid exposure. This number extends from 0 to 8. 0 means that the product has no protection against liquids, whereas 8 means that the product is protected against long periods of immersion under pressure.
Consequently, IP67 means that the product is 100% protected against solid objects. In the case of liquids, it is protected from the temporary immersion between 15cm and 1m and a duration of 30 minutes.
